Amazon Best Sellers Rank (BSR) is one of the most watched — and most misunderstood — numbers on a product page. Here’s what it actually measures and how to track it.
What BSR measures
BSR reflects sales volume relative to other products in the same category, updated frequently. A lower number is better (#1 is the top seller). It’s primarily a recent-sales signal, weighted toward the last day or two, so it moves fast.
BSR vs keyword rank
They’re different lenses. BSR is category-wide sales standing; keyword rank is your position for a specific search term. A product can have a strong BSR but rank poorly for a competitive keyword, or vice versa. Track both — see how to track your keyword rank for the other half.
Why BSR fluctuates
- It’s velocity-based, so a single big sales day can swing it sharply.
- Category size matters — #500 in a huge category can outsell #50 in a niche one.
- It resets often, so a snapshot is far less useful than a trend.
How to track BSR over time
Paste any ASIN into the free rank tracker to pull its current price, rating, and Best Seller Rank — then set a tracker to watch BSR (and price) for your products or a competitor’s, with alerts when it moves.
