SellerMate Feature Update: Global Base Value for Budget, Bid & Placement

We’re excited to announce that we’ve recently launched the ability to make bulk changes in Base Budget, Bid, and Placement using bulk actions.

1. What’s New

With this update, you can:

  • Bulk update Base Budget, Bid, and Placement for multiple campaigns or targets in one action.

  • Ensure these updates are considered as Global Base Values, which act as the reference point for all campaign rules and automation.

  • Automate bid, budget, and placement adjustments while maintaining alignment with Dayparting (DP) rules.

2. How Global Base Value Works

2.1 Base Value and Dayparting Rules

  • Dayparting (DP) rules adjust bids, budgets, or placements for targets based on performance during specific hours.

  • Base values are especially important for DP rules, as thresholds for hourly calculations are derived from these base values.

Bid Example:

  • Target X has a base bid of $1.00.

  • A DP rule increases it by 20% during peak hours → new bid = $1.20.

  • If the base bid is updated via bulk action to $1.10, the DP rule now calculates 20% on $1.10 → new bid = $1.32.

Placement Example:

  • Top of the search has a base placement bid of $0.50.

  • A DP rule applies a multiplier of 1.2 during certain hours → new placement bid = $0.60.

  • If the base placement bid is updated via bulk action to $0.60, the DP rule calculates 1.2 × $0.60 → $0.72.

Budget Example:

  • Campaign Y has a base daily budget of $100.

  • A DP rule increases the budget by 50% during peak hours → $150.

  • If the base budget is updated via bulk action to $120, the DP rule will now calculate 50% on $120 → $180.

  • In the budget, Dayparting the budget also gets reset daily at the base budget at the end of the day.

2.2 Automation Rules + DP Interaction

When an automation rule runs (e.g., increase bid by 10% based on performance), the behavior depends on DP rule inclusion:

2.2 Automation Rules + DP Interaction

When an automation rule runs (e.g., increase bid by 10% based on performance), the behavior depends on DP rule inclusion:

Why is this action important?

DP Rule (Dayparting) Uses Base Bid for Calculations

  • A Dayparting (DP) rule adjusts bids at specific hours of the day based on performance.

  • The rule doesn’t just modify the current bid—it calculates changes relative to the base bid.

Maintains Consistency Across Time

  • If the target is part of a DP rule and an automation rule increases the bid, updating the base bid ensures that all future hourly adjustments by the DP rule are consistent.

  • Without updating the base bid, the DP rule would continue using the old base, and the automation increase would only temporarily affect the current bid, leading to potential misalignment.

Prevents Conflicts Between Rules

  • Automation rules and DP rules can run simultaneously.

  • By updating the base bid, the system ensures the automation rule and DP adjustments work in harmony, avoiding bid oscillations or incorrect thresholds.

Simplifies Campaign Management

  • You don’t have to manually adjust the DP rule after applying automation changes or bulk current bid changes.

  • Base bid updates act as a single source of truth, reducing errors and manual effort.

2.3 Budget & Placement Updates

  • Bulk changes to Base Budget and Placement work similarly to bids

  • Updates are applied as the Global Base.

  • Any rules referencing these base values will automatically use the updated numbers.

  • Ensures campaign thresholds and automated adjustments remain accurate.

3. Benefits of Global Base Updates

  • Time-saving: Update multiple campaigns or targets in one action.

  • Consistency: All rules use the same reference base value, avoiding conflicts.

  • Automation-friendly: Works seamlessly with DP and other automation rules.

  • Error reduction: Minimizes manual adjustments and misalignment between campaigns.

4. Example Scenario

Initial Setup:

  • Target A: Base Bid = $1.00

  • Base Budget = $100

  • Base Placement Bid = $0.50

  • DP rule: Increase bid by 20%, budget by 50%, placement by 1.2 multiplier during peak hours

  • Automation rule: Increase bid, budget, or placement by 10% based on performance

Action via Bulk Update:

  • Base bid updated to $1.10

  • Base budget updated to $120

  • Base placement bid updated to $0.60

Result:

  • DP rule now calculates:

    • Bid: 1.10 × 1.2 → $1.32

    • Budget: 120 × 1.5 → $180

    • Placement: 0.60 × 1.2 → $0.72

  • Automation rule calculates 10% on the new base values, keeping adjustments consistent.

5. Key Takeaways

  • Always consider Global Base Values as the reference for all automated calculations.

  • Bulk updates simplify campaign management and ensure accurate adjustments for bids, budgets, and placements.

  • Integration with DP and automation rules ensures predictable campaign performance without conflicts.
